Experience the Precision Eye and Laser Difference

Dr. David Steinberg is a board-certified ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon who founded Precision Eye and Laser in 2003 with a clear goal: to provide exceptional eye care using the most advanced technology available—while maintaining the personal attention and trust that patients deserve.
In an era of large, impersonal medical groups, Dr. Steinberg’s private-practice approach is a return to how medicine should be practiced. He takes the time to truly know his patients, understand how they use their vision in daily life, and tailor care accordingly. His reputation for thoughtful, personalized treatment is reflected in the fact that many physicians and optometrists in the community choose him as their own eye doctor.
Advanced Ophthalmic Care, Delivered Personally
Dr. Steinberg specializes in minimally invasive cataract surgery and advanced laser vision correction. He was among the first surgeons to introduce premium intraocular lenses and dropless cataract surgery to Dutchess County—helping raise the standard of vision care across the region.
With more than 20 years of experience as an ophthalmologist and over 1,000 surgical procedures performed annually, Dr. Steinberg offers patients the confidence that comes from extensive hands-on expertise. His surgical philosophy centers on precision, safety, and outcomes that align with each patient’s lifestyle and visual goals.
As a LASIK patient himself, Dr. Steinberg understands firsthand the importance of clear communication, education, and trust throughout the surgical process.
Education, Training, and Credentials
Dr. Steinberg completed his ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, achieving scores in the top 10 percent nationally.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Rice University, where he was awarded the Roy Scholarship for Excellence in Science. He received his medical degree from SUNY Stony Brook and was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, recognizing the top 10 percent of medical students nationwide. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut.
Following his training, Dr. Steinberg joined the Gailey Eye Clinic in Bloomington, Illinois—one of the oldest and largest eye centers in the Midwest—where he further refined his skills in cataract surgery and laser vision correction.
A Commitment to Excellence—For Patients and Staff
Dr. Steinberg is deeply committed to continuous learning, not only for himself but for his entire clinical team. Every technician at Precision Eye and Laser is encouraged to advance their education and certification through the International Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology, with Dr. Steinberg personally providing resources, mentorship, and support.
He is often found in the office before and after hours, working directly with technicians to ensure that every patient encounter reflects the highest standards of care.
